For more than a half century, Murphy Oil Corporation has
been an environmental leader in the oil and gas industry. We
have a history of meeting and surpassing government
environmental standards. Since 2001, our downstream
operations have reduced criteria pollutant air emissions by
approximately 73 percent.
Our environmental initiatives are ongoing. Over the last five
years, Murphy has developed programs to further minimize
our already low emissions and help reduce greenhouse
gases. For example, Murphy completed a Clean Fuels
initiative at its Meraux, Louisiana refinery in 2003, three
years before government regulations went into effect,
becoming one of the first U.S. refineries to do so. Murphy
became the first U.K. marketer to supply ultra-low-sulfur
gasoline to all of its retail outlets in 2000.
Additionally, Murphy voluntarily constructed wetlands in
the Superior, Wisconsin area at Newton Creek. These
wetlands are a valuable resource because they protect and
improve water quality, provide fish and wildlife habitats, and
maintain surface water flow during dry periods. |
