Reflecting its longstanding commitment to environmental protection, the Company also implemented the EPA’s Natural Gas
Star Program before the program was instituted, largely eliminating emissions targeted by the program. In November 2000,
Murphy became a formal partner in this program. In Ecuador, Murphy and its business partners developed an Environmental
Management Program and state-of-the-art technology to protect a unique and fragile rain forest ecosystem, minimizing the
impact of the facility during construction and operation.
In 2003, the Company completed its Clean Fuels Project at its Meraux refinery, making it one of the first refineries able to
produce 100 percent low-sulfur gasoline, reducing emissions and meeting or going beyond current sulfur standards. As a result
of this Clean Fuels initiative, we estimate that our Meraux refinery's low-sulfur gasoline reduces vehicle emissions by more than 2,000 tons per year.
